cold war Basics
What did the Americans hope to accomplish during the Cold War?
The Americans had three main goals that needed to be achieved in the Cold War or else there would be World War III.
Here are the reasons:
1. They didn't want communism to spread, so they wanted to contain communism in Russia. Basically, they wanted to squeeze the idea out of the Russians foricng everyone to be democratic and capitalistic.
2. So, they didn't want the Soviet Union to influence European-allied nations in governemnt descisions. Essentially, they didn't want the Russians to poke their noses where it didn't belong.
3. Finally, they didn't want to anger them at the same time because they were afraid of a nuclear war. They literally didn't want the Russians to explode with anger at them.
